pear packages missing.Īt the time, all i was wanting to do was install ACME, admittedly probably not a great thing to do during a business day. The question is: do I get my packages back after installing an older version of pfSense? Or will I get stuck (unable to install the required packages for applicable pfSense version)? This would mean that I have to create an image of such a firewall before even thinking about upgrading it.Īt work on Friday, i had the unfortunate discovery of what happens when you try installing a package on 2.4.3 since 2.4.4 was out aka a pile of missing packages and a completely broken web UI eg. I could find some mirrors with old versions of pfSense but I am unsure if these will persists and doubt the possibility to install the packages on such an older pfSense version.ĭo I have to hold off in particular cases? What are my options to roll back based on the applicable version and a backup file. It also didn't work from console (it installed something but it did not work). For example I was unable to install the OpenVPN Client Export package on 2.4.3.

I had to upgrade to 2.4.4 to be able to install such a package. And I have noticed I could not install packages on 2.4.3. I am unable to find old installs previously found at. In such cases I need to be able to roll back (to restore services as it was before) and I am unsure about the possibility to roll back firewalls with all the installed packages.

I am cautious as I will have to update some older firewalls with important tunnels. My question is if there are a lot of admins holding off for now and why? I did also notice some posts about holding off the upgrade at the moment. I have also seen a post about problems with IPsec. I did read about problems with OpenVPN for road worriers and OpenVPN LAN to LAN setups. I have read some posts about issues after the upgrade. There are still some older installs to do (2.3.x) and there are some clients who are using IPsec/OpenVPN tunnels and GRE tunnels. Just a basic config based on 2.4.2 / 2.4.3 + OpenVPN configured as TUN. The scenario is every time the same at the moment. r/pfblockerng /r/sysadmin /r/networking /r/homelab /r/homenetworkingĬurrently I am upgrading some pfSense firewalls to release 2.4.4.
